Missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints happily presented and delivered three hundred Book of Mormons and three hundred copies of The New Testament to the new high-rise Toyoko Inn, just completed in Phnom Penh’s business and tourist district.
All three hundred upscale rooms have a Book of Mormon and a New Testament placed in them.
Management noted they have found these “Bible Books” to bring peace to their patrons. Many times downtrodden, busy and tired guests need something inspirational to read. The books are placed on a custom built shelf close to the beds for relaxing reading.
The New Testament contains teachings of Jesus Christ, events in His life, and in the lives of His followers. The Book of Mormon is “Another Testament of Jesus Christ”.
Since it was first published in English in 1830, the Book of Mormon has been fully translated into 82 languages, and printed copies have totaled more than 150 million. It has been described as the “keystone” of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From the beginning, Church members have accepted it as scripture.
This doesn’t mean the Book of Mormon replaces the Bible as scripture for members of the Church. The Bible and the Book of Mormon are used side by side in their preaching and personal study.
