Twenty-five leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attend a meeting held in Phnom Penh Cambodia December 14, 2015 on Dissemlnating Religious Moral Vision for Harmonization in Cambodia. Over six thousand religious based attendees participated in listening to H.E. Min Khin, Minister of Cults and Religion in Cambodia, and Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen speak.
Cambodian’s state religion, stated by their constitution, is Buddhism. There are currently 60,000 monks and 5,000 pagodas across Cambodia. Ninety-five percent of Cambodians are Buddhist. Islam has 300,00 followers and 0.25 percent follow Christianity. Cambodia continues to encourage religious freedoms.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) has 30 congregations and over 12,000 members in Cambodia. Twenty-five local leaders from the Church attended this meeting where the Church was recognized for their strong relationship with the Ministry of Cults and Religion. A medal of recognition was presented by H.E. Min Khin to Stake President Eng Bun Huoch, who acts as Country Spokesman for the Church in Cambodia, receiving the award on behalf of the Church.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes strongly in religious freedoms, and promotes these freedoms. A core Church belief centers on “claiming the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may” (Articles of Faith).
