Cambodia Welcomes New Mission President

President John Lewis to Lead Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission

News Release

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has called John Lewis to preside over the Cambodia, Phnom Penh Mission.  President and Sister Lewis are excited to arrive in Phnom Penh to be with the Saints of Cambodia. They have lived in Gilbert, Arizona for the last 33 years. They grew up in Provo, Utah and met in high school and attended Brigham Young University together. After President Lewis completed his mission to Japan, they married in 1980. The Lewis’ have 8 children and 18 grandchildren. 

The Lewis’ just attended a 4-day Mission Leadership Training Conference at the Mission Training Center in Provo, Utah, with 112 new Mission Presidents and Companions from 23 different countries. The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve gave final instructions to the Mission Leaders before their departure to their mission assignments.

President and Sister Lewis also provided their personal comments:

 “From the moment that we learned about our assignment to Cambodia, we have been excited. We appreciate the efforts of the members to support the missionaries and to build the Kingdom of God. We are eager to join the Saints in inviting the people of Cambodia to learn about our loving Heavenly Father and his Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.”  (President John Lewis)

 “We are thrilled with the privilege to serve in Cambodia. Our hearts are filled with love and gratitude for the Saints and their sacrifices. While we are not skilled with the language, we have come to appreciate that it is a beautiful language! We will do our best to communicate our love in spoken word and from the heart.”  (Sister LaCinda Lewis)
