Traffic Safety Saves Lives

Traffic Safety Saves Lives

A Day Devoted to Traffic Safety

News Release

It was an important day designed to inform, instruct and train families in the community to reduce traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities in the city of Phnom Penh. According to government statistics, these moto accidents and fatalities are at an alarming "all time high." The objective of the planned event, Traffic Safety Saves Lives, was to promote, through instruction, ways to keep families safer and reduce fatalities and injuries. The workshop was advertized and made available free of charge to the local community, and sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while being organized by Cambodia's National Public Affairs Council of the church.

The workshop was a resounding success as over 150 motivated participants filled the classroom to capacity.

Professional instructors from the Coalition for Road Safety provided the content of the curriculum, addressing the most common cause of accidents by using real life experiences, videos, and hands on training; followed by a variety of questions for the participants, in order to evaluate their understanding of material presented.

Vannak Roth, member of the Public Affairs Council, who helped to organize the event remarked,

"If this information and training helps avoid an accident, or saves one person from a possible fatality, it will be well worth the efforts in making the workshop available to the community."

At the completion of the workshop the first 70 people, who pre-registered, were awarded quality moto helmets. Everyone who completed the course received a "Certificate of Attendance."  The most important outcome was that each participant received life-saving training, a greater awareness of driving defensively; and ultimately being better prepared for unexpected situations on the busy, crowded streets of the city.
