Historic Gathering for Christian Community Leaders

Recently, honored guests gathered for a historic luncheon which included eighteen separate Christian denomination leaders.  Representing the Royal Government of Cambodia was His Excellency, Him Chhem, Senior Minister of Cult and Religion, accompanies by other high-ranking members of the Ministry.  The luncheon was hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The purpose of the event was to establish new relationships and friendships through fellowship.  By combining their common belief in following the example of the Savior Jesus Christ, the shared goal was to unite, as a faith-based group in service, to further help and lift the people of Cambodia.

The luncheon provided an opportunity for conversation and interaction, fostering new relationship for future cooperation and service.  In appreciation for their attendance, a CD of beautiful hymns by the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir, was presented by the LDS Church, to each congregation leader as well as government officials.

As His Excellency, Him Chhem, graciously posed for pictures, he remarked, "This gathering is beyond my expectations.  I am thrilled to see this group come together with the desire to assist their fellow citizens of Cambodia."

Also commenting was His Excellency, Khenh Hang Hourn, Under Secretary of State, "This is a very, very good purpose to join together to do good for others."

It is expected this momentous event will launch future combined, cooperative service initiatives by these congregations, in following the admonition of the Savior found in the New Testament, "Love one another, as I have loved you."
