H.E. Min Khin, Minister of Religion and H.E. Dr. Uong Vibol, Under Secretary of State were pleased to see 515 children from the school the Under Secretary attended as a child receive backpacks containing much needed school supplies. Teachers from participating schools were presented with hygiene training kits with supplies to teach basic hygiene to school children. The ceremony signaled the completion of a critical clean water and hygiene project for the area’s school children.

The project initiative began at the urging of teachers from 8 Sithor Kandal, Prey Veng Province schools. The initiative was received by H.E. Min Khin who quickly approved the request. H.E. then contacted LDS Charities (LDSC) to partner with the Ministry. The project initiative included new wells and improved sanitation for the requesting province schools.
At the ceremony H.E. Min Khin spoke and thanked LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for partnering with the Ministry. Special mention was made that the initiative took place in H.E. Dr. Uong Vibol’s home province. The Minister then stressed the importance of education and encouraged the children to stay in school and achieve the highest education possible.
Mr. Pe Im, District Governor from Sitmor Kandal and President and Sister Moon of the Phnom Penh Cambodia Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also attended the project completion ceremony. President Moon spoke to the children and shared his love for them and the country of Cambodia. The children responded with great enthusiasm to his remarks and were happy and excited to have received the backpacks and kits. In keeping with color tradition pink backpacks were given the girls and blue the boys.
